Blockchain Prep
Prepare for smart contract and protocol engineering interviews: Solidity, the EVM, security and DeFi.
About this course
Web3 interviews test both engineering fundamentals and a domain where bugs can lose real money. Blockchain Prep covers the cryptography and consensus basics, how the EVM executes code, and how to write, test and audit secure Solidity.
You'll solve smart contract coding and security problems in the workspace, then work through DeFi mechanics and dApp architecture so you can discuss trade-offs between L1s, rollups and off-chain infrastructure.
What you'll learn
- Explain hashing, digital signatures and Merkle trees
- Compare proof-of-work and proof-of-stake consensus
- Describe how the EVM executes transactions and charges gas
- Write secure Solidity and spot common vulnerabilities
- Optimise contracts for gas without sacrificing safety
- Explain AMMs, lending protocols and oracle design
- Design a dApp architecture with off-chain indexing

Frequently asked questions
Do I need prior blockchain experience?
No, but you should be a working software engineer. The first two sections cover the fundamentals from scratch.
Which chains are covered?
The course focuses on Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains, since that's where most roles are. The consensus and scaling sections compare other designs.
Which tooling is used?
Solidity with Foundry for testing. Hardhat equivalents are noted where relevant.
How long does it take?
About 4 weeks at 5 hours a week.
